CHICAGO WOMAN is a portrait project in honor of International Women’s Day, 2022. Our intention is to highlight the various identities, possibilities, and embodiments of womanhood. We asked women in the city of Chicago to answer the question of what it means to be a woman in today’s world and this is how they responded.

THE FRUITS OF OUR LABOR
Growing up, I could always rely on my grandfather to bring plates of fresh fruit to the breakfast table. He frequently visited the local fruit and vegetable markets along the streets from our home in Mombasa, Kenya.
NO MAN’S LAND
There is no sense of normal, and there likely never will be. The year 2020 burned our blind eye to the injustice, lack of kindness and dishonest freedoms in our world, all while planting seeds of love, tenderness and grace.
